Main basic thing is you should work on various factors of SEO ( search engine optimization) to get your site rank & traffic well in the search engines.

One of the best SEO techniques I used forever before others caught on was a video. Just a plain, easy video about your site. Get gussied up, talk about the benefits of your site, edit in windows movie maker, or whatever you have, place it in youtube, and embed in your site. Google is hard, but Yahoo loves video. this way is free.
I am on page one Yahoo for my field, and have a lot of competition, and did it for free.

I would recommend link building and social media marketing. Link building consists of press release marketing and article marketing over time. I would research some industry blogs, forums and message boards and respond to blog posts and forum posts with industr educated answers and leave your url behind in the post. If don't right this is not spamming.
