Seems Facebook is rolling it out again. I have it back again as well, after doing exactly what you did. I am also not in New Zealand, but yet, I have it again. I think it's coming for all of us.
A recent post by facebook http://www.facebook.com/facebooktips seems to indicate that it is coming back - soon.

Its my birthday today. And i got tons of birthday wall posts on my profile. Now, I can't like all the wall posts because I am having a hard time. OMG, i thought I was the only one. What a nice gift to my by facebook, IRRITATING actually.

I'm stuck with it again too. Used it for a short time, quickly & easily deleted the app & now it says I have no apps to delete!

Same here. I disabled a few weeks ago and it has reappeared today. I googled it to see how to get rid again and landed here!

Ugh I thought I was the only one! I enabled the timeline months ago too. And it freakin came back. Facebook sucks. We all know that now.
