Honestly, who cares how many followers you have? Shouldnt your tumblr be for you to express yourself? What does it matter how many people see it? Blog to express not impress.

Participate in "you follow me I'll follow you posts". These can be harder to find but some contain hundreds of different uses who will follow you if you follow them. Fluther.com has a couple of these posts.

Here are some tips to get more followers on Tumblr;
1. Reblog and like interesting and compelling posts from other users! This will help you to create a conversation.
2. Join different groups and interact with other group members
3. Follow people with the same interests
4. Just enjoy the whole process. Just keep the "interaction" .
