I have 356, and I only add real friends. I should probably take up your policy and only keep people I actually speak with on a regular basis though. It's really annoying sometimes to look at my wall and see a million stupid things about Farmville or Happy Aquarium and whatnot.
One of my friends has approximately 1200 I think, but he's in a band semi-well known around here.
