You would need to ask them - I can't speak for other atheists.

They've been making comments in here about priests molesting boys and then the Catholics covering it up instead of firing the priests for this. So, guess that's what is going on here. But they should mind their own business now because they are piling up sins against themselves while they judge all Christians. They have been harassing constantly.

Because the pope has done something to them obviously...
Or maybe it's because they have no lives?

Probably because catholicism is a disgusting religion and they are merely exercising free speech. If you're offended, get off the internet.

Maybe Herr Ratzinger deserves them?
He is a political leader after all and his `party` has been guilty of many atrocities and crimes.

First off... why do you assume that it is only atheists who are leaving those tweets? Not one of them claim to be an atheist and for you to assume they are is extremely bigotted. Could be protestants or Jews or pagans or boys who were abused by catholic preists or just about anyone. The catholic church too a major beating and has lost most of it's influence on those other than devout catholics when all the molestation and cover ups became public.

Second, the pope is a controversial figure and many people hate the pope and the catholic religion... he is going to get hate posts, live with it.. all controversial figures get negative tweets.

Third you can;t actually commonet on the popes twitter account... all people can do it leave their own tweets on their own accounts about the pope..... AND the article even says that posts were left BEFORE the popes account was even opened... therefore could not have been on his account. So... your "question" is inaccurate is so many ways all it does is show you have no idea what you are even thinking about.

The Pope lives in a protection bubble. He has no idea that the majority of people on this planet feel something between mild distrust to seething hatred for both his office, and for him, personally.

I predict his cardinals will close this account before he ever posts his first tweet. The Pope will never handle the internet.

Rational excellent answer, I agree with everything you say.

One reason is that they are very afraid.

Another is that they mistake stupidity for intelligence, and rudeness for wit.

Another is that it makes the mental spastics feel cool about themselves, being their only achievement in life, as they like to sit in front of a mirror all night, masturbating.
