Is this a growing field... what education should one have. Any suggestions how one can break into the field. thanks

Yes, this sure is a growing field. More and more companies realize that marketing and advertising through the social media is very beneficial. Seeing that companies have to run their day to day operations, they don't have time to focus on the advertising / marketing part. They then leave this in the hands of someone who is specialized in this. You'll need an education in advertising / marketing. Get experience from an early age and you'll be just fine.
