One of the many ways to get a lot of Twitter Followers is by associating yourself to a bigger cause. Many people tend to follow others that have similar interests. Sometimes being an active member of a large website/community would bring along followers.
You just have to put yourself and your name out there to get people to follow you. Commonalities are the best way to get connected with people that are interested in the same ways.
If you have a company, or something that you are passionate about can lead to a lot more people following.
