On the new Facebook profile, how does it determine which friends are shown? - Lauren A - 02-19-2014 12:46 PM

WIth the new facebook profile in place, there are 10 friends featured on the mail profile page, and then when you click "Friends", it shows many more. However, there seems to be no logical order to this, i.e. not alphabetical or anything like that. However, I have noticed that the people shown are usually close friends and/or family of the person. Does anyone know how Facebook chooses which people show up there??

I'm trying to figure this out myself. I think it might have to do with profile views. It seems like the people who talk to you the most/view your profile the most end up in those 10 spots.

According to Facebook:

“Friends who you publicly interact with the most appear first on your profile. Examples of public interactions include Wall posts, comments and mutually attended events — Facebook will never show friends based on whose profiles you choose to view or who you interact with over messages and chat.”
