I got a message from Yahoo saying I needed to change my password. How do I know if is actually Yahoo or a s? - Agnes - 02-19-2014 12:49 PM How do I know if it is from Yahoo or a scam? - Aaron - 02-19-2014 12:55 PM Yup, it's a scam. - Martin - 02-19-2014 12:59 PM tell em to feck off lol. but just in case go to yahoo, not via the email, and change the password - Kittysue - 02-19-2014 01:03 PM 1 - ALL emails regarding your account will be from an @cc.yahoo-inc.com address, NEVER @yahoo.com or anything else 2 - ALL emails regarding your account will ALWAYS have a purple Y! logo to the left of the message in your Inbox. No logo means it's fake 3 - ALL emails regarding your account will always address you by your name (i.e. Dear John, Dear Mary), never a generic greeting (Dear Customer, Dear Yahoo Account Holder, Dear Valid User, etc), your email address or no greeting at all 4 - Yahoo will NEVER ask for any personal details, passwords or usernames in an email and will never ask you to click on a link to ‘verify’ your account. Yahoo accounts were recently hacked (along with Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, etc) so they are emailing people whose accounts were affected http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/dec/5/hack-attack-2-million-facebook-twitter-passwords/ http://news.yahoo.com/facebook-google-twitter-users-among-nearly-2-million-124811240.html http://www.news10.net/news/national/264861/5/Almost-2-million-accounts-compromised-in-mass-hack |
