Why do certain friends get upset if I don't keep up with their updates on FB? - sugar1973 - 02-20-2014 04:07 AM

I have been trying to get off of facebook recently, especially now that I have to prepare for graduate school and still find a job. I even deactivated for several months and came back. I thought that some of my friends (in particular the ones who are most active on fb) would still maintain our friendship. I've had a few who disliked that I wasn't keeping up with all the updates they had on their timelines--engagements, weddings, pregnancies these days. It's being taken that I'm ignoring them. To be honest, mostly why I'm not on there is because it's a waste and pointless to be reading all the mundane updates when I have so much to do, but I also don't see the important stuff they want everyone to see. I've kept myself on fb for those friends that protest mostly. I'd be better off not on there at all. Do I have to interact with them on there to keep friendships "active"?

No. Keep in touch with brief emails, maybe once every 10 days or a fortnight. If you keep the "TO" list short, you can even send little group emails, but DON'T EVER send long, detailed ones to more than maybe four or five people maximum.

FB is a terrible waste of time, and I can't be bothered with all the trivia.
