Is this good customer service? - Sailor On The Seas Of Fate - 02-20-2014 01:16 PM

An online company with retail stores sent me an email telling me my mother bought me a gift and later a gift card that was supposed to be a refund due my mother and I wrote asking them what went wrong and why they were sharing my mother's purchase history and actual money with me.

One agent told me that my mother chose to receive the rebate in the form of a gift card and since they didn't have my mother's email address they sent it to me. I explained to the agent that can't possibly be true because if my mother had agreed to receive a gift card the agent would have asked her for her email address. The agent did not reply and a subsequent agent ignored my inquiry AND an online chat agent told me I should "ask my mother" about it. I wrote asking for an apology for this lie and if one was not forthcoming that the agent forward my issue to a supervisor. The agent wrote back only to indicate the email had been forwarded to a supervisor.

A supervisor did not contact me so I wrote back yesterday. Finally the agent admitted that it had been a mistake sending the gift card to me. Fine, I thought, we're done here. I wrote back to tell the agent thank you and suggest that in addition to admitting it was a mistake an apology might be in order. The agent had the audacity to write back to tell me that the first agent had already apologized, which she did in general, while at the same time telling me my mother was a liar. I wrote back offended and the agent had the further audacity to tell me he would no longer respond to my messages nor would he forward my issue to his supervisor.

What do I do now? I filed a BBB complaint but it's not enough. I'm thinking of putting something on their Facebook page but that seems like I might be embarrassing myself more than them. I've already written about the issue on Reddit but not about the latest customer service disaster update. This is a popular niche company, top in its area. Are customer service agents allowed to argue with customers like this? Shouldn't they be agreeable and apologetic to a fault? They really will cut you off rather than simply apologize? What self-importance! I wasn't being abusive or vulgar, just asking a few questions and not receiving any good answers.

Why are you making such a drama out of something so silly?
They made a not very serious mistake.
No one was out of pocket.
You have wasted o lot of your time making a problem where there wasn't one.
Chill out before you give yourself a heart attack.
