Can social media cause distress? - Vicky - 02-20-2014 07:39 PM

I'm doing a abstract project on the topic 'Distress' and i'm thinking of linking this to the social media since we need to have direct observation and personal experience

what i'm asking is does linking these 2 (distress + social media) make sense to you? And can social media cause distress to an individual?

i just hope to get some personal responses from other people to get different perspectives on this Smile

thank uyou

Yes, they can be extremely closely linked. The notification walls on social media sites (such as facebook), is constantly plastered with details of friends and associates' activities over the weekends. This can bring about feelings of distress in people who observe these posts. This can often lead to people spending hours on social networking sites observing the lives of others and feeling unhappy or distressed if they compare it to their own activities/lives and feel they come out of the comparison unfavorably.
