i've seen advertisements for facebook layouts, but do they really work? i looked at a couple and you had to like install a program or something. i don't want a virus.
if they are legit, could someone send me a link with a reputable one? like a layout website or whatever that actually works?

No, no one on Facebook owns a layout

Unlike Myspace, Facebook does not support custom layouts. There is no way to change the default Facebook layout.
You made a good choice by not installing the programs you mentioned
