It's a pretty sad statement of his culture that he would brag about going back to prison.

REALLY BAD idea. Seriously, going out with someone just because you feel sorry for him is already a huge mistake. Going out with a criminal (and a proud one at that) is an even bigger mistake. Leave him alone if you don't want trouble in your life.
