Is it illegal to put music on Facebook? - Glad to help - 02-23-2014 03:07 PM

I've got an mp3 player application on Facebook. It allows me to upload songs, then include links where people can buy them (on iTunes, Amazon.com, etc.) Considering that this becomes an advertisement for the musician, and a place for them to buy this music, is it still illegal for me to put the music on my Facebook page? Are the record companies suing for this?

Dude, record companies don't have time to sue some random person on facebook. Besides it is like an advertisement for them anyway.

No, they're not suing for it, and no, it's technically not illegal. It's not really any different from letting someone else listen to your iPod; you're not GIVING them the music, just letting them listen to it once in a while. Plus, it offers a link to a site for buying the music, making it easier for people who like the song to buy it for themselves. It is likely to give the musician/record company more business, not to steal money from them. So yes, it's ok to put the music on Facebook.
