akamaihd.net and twimg.com on twitter? - Yahoo! Answers - 02-24-2014 10:38 PM

So I have privacy concerns because I noticed if you click on a twitter profile picture, you are directed to akamaihd.net or twimg.com with the full size of the picture. Can someone elaborate on this for me? Do these websites keep your pictures? Also, when you are uploading a profile picture on twitter and you change your mind and upload a different picture, does twitter still have the first one (photo you uploaded for only a few seconds) in their database somewhere? Basically, do they keep all your upload attempts or do they just keep your current profile pic?

Akamai stores, distributes and delivers online content in bulk. Companies like Twitter hire Akamai to deliver content fast to their users. I read Twitter's privacy policy and it does say what they store, and it is more than what is visible online. They not mention pictures specifically, so the question should best be asked to Twitter.
