I created a stupid cartoon avatar in my yahoo account about 10 years ago, and now cannot figure out how to get rid of it....please help!

Yahoo no longer supports the creation of their (own) cartoon avatars.
But you can use a photo avatar or a cartoon avatar from another site, and if you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can also use those avatars.
Go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/privacy/ - make sure your profile isn't hidden, because if it is, your avatar won't show.
In case you want to use a Facebook or Twitter avatar, you need to link those accounts in the Profile options.

You have several options in case you want a photo avatar:
a) go to your Yahoo! Answers settings at http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity > click edit my preferences near your current pic > click "Update photo or avatar",
b) go to your Yahoo! Profile at http://profile.yahoo.com/ , click on the current avatar.
Now upload a picture or choose one of the pics you've uploaded previously - the format can be bmp, jpg, png, or .gif.
Note: if you are on a mobile, you need to switch to desktop mode first in order for this to work.

If its just a Photo all there is to changing it on Yahoo is Open your Yahoo Profile Page and Change that Photo Box photo and The Photo on all Your Yahoo pages will change to your new photo. If you Have and actual Avatars and you no longer want it you can open your Finder and Open Down Loads and Drag and Drop The Avatars in to your Trash and Trash it and the Avatars Photo and Avatars will Be removed when you Change Your Yahoo Profile photo.
