How do you successfully petition to have the date of a national holiday moved? - Jabbar - 02-25-2014 10:35 PM

I'd like to see martin luther king day moved into the same date as valentine's day because right now it comes too soon after new years and most people are still winding down from that and hung over too mcuh to celebrate the m.l.k, day appropriately. Also martin luther king was about spreading free love and joy and that's what st. valentinian ddid as well so they should just share the date and make it that much more speccial.

The most important part is to get a group that agree with you as large as possible. Then form the petition, making a clear statement about what you want. A good idea might be to make a facebook page about it. If many people agree with you, you will get a lot of likes and many people will sign the petition.
When you have a lot of likes/signatures, present it formally.
Make sure the statement is reasonable and clear!
Hope this helps!

By the way, I do agree with you, email me when you start, I'll sign it Big Grin
