should i put my facebook and twitter on an internship application? - Lee - 10-15-2012 07:42 PM

i'm applying for a summer internship and on the application its asking for facebook and twitter. i'm not sure if i should put mine on there. i have nothing to hide and no embarrassing pictures or anything, it's on private as well as my twitter. but the internship i'm applying for is a pr/marketing so i figure there will be a lot of social networking going on in the position. would it be a good idea to give it to them? the internship isn't a stiffy one, it's at this jewelry making that sends a bunch of their proceeds to help women in uganda.

I have actually looked up applicants on MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter and NOT hired them based on that. Real employers could care less about your internet social activities. ALL you are doing is giving them a tool to reject you. You need to live in the real world if you think that someone is going to hire you based on your Facebook page.

the simple answer is no. while you may have nothing on there to hide it's much better to keep it completely professional.
