inert electrodes in galvanic cells? - Soccer - 02-28-2014 10:27 PM Inert electrodes do not participate in redox reactions taking place in a galvanic cell but rather just completes the circuit. In this diagram is it correct to say that the solid copper electrode is an inert electrode? http://instagram.com/p/kdEYhMSuFX/ Thanks - Martell - 02-28-2014 10:41 PM No the copper electrode is not an inert electrode, it is in a solution of its ions and therefore participates in the reaction. - JosephV - 02-28-2014 10:45 PM Carbon anode in a ZnCl cell would be inert. Copper is present as ions in the electrolyte with its salt. |
