the facebook app that was on it to begin was great but now if i download the app from facebook its no use and nothing like it originally was on the phone

Do a factory reset on the phone getting it back to it's original settings. That is all i can come up with. It's really too bad what facebook is doing with their mobile apps. They seem to be getting worse and worse.
