1984, They Live, Pink Floyd - The Wall, The Network,..

These movies were science fiction then, they're becoming truth now.

I don't remember much State propaganda then, the news actually represented the people and told the news not the State propaganda it does today. TV shows were more family oriented, not the 24/7 filth of mind and morals it is today. The media industry today glorifies social degeneration as the State media preaches allegiance to the State.

I can't recall seeing a lot of movies with overt political messages from when I was a kid.

Propaganda was and probably still is ubiquitous in the movies. My son studied this at university and I remember an episode of Star Trek that he analysed, It reflected the zeitgeist that had been manipulated by your government, and was in fact, a method of manipulation. The propaganda in some movies is more obvious than others. Compare the message in Star Trek to some of the John Wayne war movies (I'm thinking of Green Berets) or Rambo taking on the Soviet army in Afghanistan
