I went onto a profile I know and I went to add her. As I was on her profile there was no 'add friend button' also 'message' button. I have never added or contacted this person on Facebook before. Can someone please tell me why?

You can set your privacy settings to where nobody can add you. To where only you can add people. Also, if you're over 18, and they're under 18, it'll do that for obvious reasons. You'll simply have to have the other person add you.

that person has their settings set so that only friends of her friends can request to be her friend or message her
