Yes, it is actully. They have been the 10 people to most recently view your profile besides the people that aren't your friends.

I don't know. It's a myth, some say it is. Because I had 2 accounts and I forgot the password to one of them but it still appears on the left...

Yes,it is the ones who you have interacted with the most and or have visited your profile the most.
