To stay in touch with friends and family:
DEFINITELY Facebook.
For everything else (like latest news(realtime), to advertise your products or to catch up useless tweets by 'celebs')
Or if you have lots of people to reach out to who don't even know (e.g. like advertising your selling products or if you're famous and have to keep your fans informed etc.
Twitter is better.
It certainly is more secure in terms of you data. (I think the privacy on twitter is better than on facebook, where anyone could get information about you if you don't have the right settings)
I don't use my twitter profile very often because I don't have a following of 1000+ people to tweet anything I do, Facebook is definitely better for me.
