What does "hash tag" mean? - Erin Fisher - 03-07-2014 05:44 PM

I watch tv and they always have a # symbol and a word or phrase beside it. I also see it on the internet sometimes. What does it mean? What is it used for?

(‘Hash tags’) are used to add context to your ‘Tweet’ within a theme or event for example. You may use #wimbledon if talking...

A bastardization of the pound sign (#) as used by Twitter users.

It's a twitter thing so you can...show that your post relates to something popular. Like...for example a big one right now is something like #TweetToYourIdolToLetThemKnowYouSupportThem or something like that.
