not really... my bio has 3 words yet i still gain followers. it's always important to customize your header, icon, background, etc so people can see what you're into when they view your page (and decide whether to follow you or not)
the best way to gain followers is to follow people with similar interests and wait until they follow back (or just unfollow them). also, post high-quality tweets so people will retweet them and make friends with people (:
