Strange Navy DEP meeting situation? - happydino1 - 03-10-2014 07:10 PM

I finished MEPS about a month ago for the Navy and picked out my job. My rate is AECF. My recruiter told me that m first DEP meeting would be the first Thursday of every month at 1600 (4:00pm). That Thursday was today and I showed up a few minutes early. I even called the recruiter's office and cell a couple times each because I had some questions. There was no answer so I left him a message. When I got there, the door was locked, it wasn't just Navy, the Army office was in the same building as well. So no one was in the building as far as I could tell. I stayed for about 10 minutes since the snow was bad thinking maybe they are running late due to the bad road conditions. No one showed up. What do you think happened?

Most likely closed due to the inbound snow storm. Check with your recruiter and make sure he knows that you were present. It isn't your fault.

Also check to see if your station has a private group on Facebook or another social media site. I know that my USMC Rss had a private group and the SNCOIC and recruiters and other Poolees would leave messages informing the rest of us of PT sessions and whether or not the office would be closed on a certain day. If your station has a group like this, join it and you won't be left out of the loop.

It was either due to bad weather (many people at shore commands DO get snow days), or due to the fact that it's the holiday season. Just like in school, the last two weeks of December are typically vacation weeks. I'm not saying you get time off for free (though you might depending on where you work), but this is when many people take leave. I can imagine the same goes for recruiters, who probably don't have much success recruiting when there are no classes to provide lectures in and when people want to just shop for gifts and spend time with their loved ones moreso than talk about joining the military.

SO.... Either they took leave/had time off/got the day off due to weather.
