without having an update posted to your feed that "[you] is now in a relationship"?
basically I don't want to make an announcement, but I still want it to be visible under my info when you look at my profile.

It will show up for a second, but you can 'x' or delete posts

you just set your relationships status to private before you change it

If you don't want anyone to see it, why even enter it? Do you need to keep reminding yourself that you are in a relationship?
If you put in a relationship status, it will be on your timeline. It will not go away, even after this relationship is over. Many people regret adding a relationship status, especially in the event of a bad breakup (don't think it can't happen to you). Best to change your relationship status only when you get married.
