I wanted to start my own social networking site and am looking for scripts for my new site
I saw many scripts online and even wordpress themes offering many such features
which is the best script or service for todays social environment
am looking to build a friendship based community

without any doubt Facebook. Twitter and tumbler might get the younger crowd, but facebook get everyone. The thing is those sites didn't get famous for having the same thing, there all different and give a new experience. You have to reinvent the wheel.

Have you seen http://chameleon.startsocialnetwork.com ? The default design sucks but they make a new one for just a hundred of bucks, some examples http://chameleondesign.net
