facebook question about mutual friends? - theperksofbeingawallflower - 03-13-2014 12:35 PM

i noticed something quite odd on facebook. how can someone like someones status or photo or whatever and the settings is set on so friends can comment and like it, if they arent friends with them? and it doesn't show them in their friends list either??
eg, i went on my 15 yo cousins facebook and my other cousin isnt in our mutual friends list, even though they can still comment, tag and like each others photos and that? and their settins are set oin so only friends can see it?

once your friend comments on a non-friend's status, it shows in your ticker as your friends' activity, exposing it to you as well, you can always see it, but you cant always comment on it and like it - the privacy settings are very complex, but what you are seeing is intentional

this is probably why parents are concerned about their kids using facebook, because although you can make your timeline "friends only" - you cannot make your ACTIVITY fully "friends only"

When someone posts his/her status for friends of friends, then it's shown both for friends and friends of friends. If that person set it up for only friends, then non-friends won't be able to like or comment or see this status.
