i like updating my tweets from text for http://twitter.com. but i don't like receiving direct messages on my phone. is there a way i can turn off direct messages for my phone so i can stop receiving them as texts?

From your homepage, go to "settings" and under "devices" you can turn on/off updates to your phone. You can even set the times you want to turn them off.
