how do home-schoolers get an ATAR? - Jazz - 03-15-2014 09:28 PM

at school teachers always go on about getting an ATAR for university. but if you get home-schooled how do you get one?
I also hear that when you graduate high school you get a certificate. how do you get one if you get home-schooled?

I assume the ATAR is similar to the A-level exams that students can take in the UK in order to go to university. If so, then they can be take at home, or via correspondence courses, or at adult education classes... or there are alternative routes into university, depending on what you want to study. You would need to get in touch with the university that interests you and ask them; homeschooling is so common in Australia that there may even be different approaches altogether. Homeschooled students are usually so motivated and so good at studying that some universities will accept them without any qualifications.

As for a school leaving certificate, that's something that parents can create and print at home, if it's really needed.

I would suggest you find out more via one of the many Australian homeschool websites or Facebook pages.
