I'll take it you mean by "progressive" the center-left, or the non-socialist left (as I see it).

I'd say that the goals of the movement are to retain the benefits of capitalism (personal and economic freedom, high production and innovation), but work toward solving some of it's more problematic aspects (reducing inequality, limiting the contradiction between economic freedom and social justice, opposing wars fought for economic reasons, championing civil and human rights, environmental protection, state intervention in the market to prevent crises, etc). These may never be solved once and for all, and the progressivist tends to be more pragmatic than Conservatives or Marxists, who tend to be more dogmatic or axiomatic in their thinking.

Progressivism doesn't have a single utopian goal like socialism does. There is no "progressive mode of production". It really means working with what we've already got to make it better, and continuing doing this for the foreseeable future. It's more an attitude toward constant improvement rather that foreseeing a radically different way of living.

re-distribution of wealth, tolerance (although with the phil robertson thing apparently only those views they agree with), and things like increase taxes.

That the government is that answer to everything and the people just need to get in place for what ever the government wants to do.
