Can cops put your photo online? - Kalee - 03-17-2014 07:29 AM

My friend sent me a snapshot of the twitter conversation going on among our school friends. Supposedly two people we know at school had shoplifted and that local police department twitter had their picture online with their offense. Is this even legal? These girls are being mocked and ridiculed. Not only that but their privacy was violated. I just think that is rude but maybe it is legal to teach them a lesson. I feel bad for their future employers looking up their name.

So all in all is that legal? If it's not can they sue the department or ask to get the picture removed.

I looked at this police department twitter and noticed they post new photos every week to embarrass people.

Of course they can. Thieves have no privacy rights, it's public information.
