China blocked facebook..? - BieberFever248 - 03-18-2014 01:41 AM

I heard that china blocked facebook..i am going there in a while. Does the ipod touch/iphone facebook app work there? Cause it's an application, not the website..?

China has had virtual censorship to prevent its citizens from finding out what is going on around the globe. So what they have done is censored certain websites which might allow the Chinese population to communicate with the outside world and enforced that censorship in all the internet providers. You shouldn't be able to access Facebook there even if it's an app (the app still redirects to the website).

Facebook is blocked completely. Not just the website, also the app.

If you must really use Facebook you can sign up for a L2TP or Cisco based VPN and configure if on your iPhone. Don't got for a PPTP VPN as those are often blocked as well. It's a bit of a hassle though, having to start the VPN every time before starting the Facebook app.

Foursquare is not (yet) blocked. Perhaps you can set it up to link to Facebook and use that instead while you're down here.
