What does George Harrison want to mean in this song? - Nelson - 03-20-2014 08:11 AM

I'm sorry, my english isn't perfect, and i'm confused of what does George wants to mean in the song Awaiting on you all. in the lyrics he says

"You don't need no love in
You don't need no bed pan
You don't need a horoscope or a microscope
To see the mess that you're in"

A bed pan? isn't that the thing that people use to urinate? what does it has to be with a spiritual song? i don't get what he's trying to say

please help, i want to translate the song to spanish. thanks

The lyrics of "Awaiting on You All" convey Harrison's desire to experience spirituality directly while rejecting organized religion as well as political and intellectual substitutes. The song praises the benefits of meditation, "chanting the names of the Lord", and that the key to any religion, regardless of its name is, to "open up your heart - accept that all faiths are valid; you'll be free if you chant the "names" of the Lord, not the single particular name given by an organized religion.

The song's opening lines ---
You don't need no love in
You don't need no bed pan

-- are a criticism of the peace activism of Harrison's former Beatle John Lennon and Lennon's wife Yoko Ono.

A 'Love-in' is a peaceful public gathering focused love, music, and/or use of psychedelic drugs often connected to protesting local, social or environmental issues. Such protests were held in opposition to the Vietnam War, and John and Yoko held one of these protests in bed for two weeks - got a lot of media attention. So George is saying perhaps - why are you making a spectacle in bed so long on TV needing a bedpan like a fool? Focus on the issues, not yourself ---------
