Emails and Facebook and others show a small dot in the corner of the icon so you are aware that there is something to read/notification. The calendar does not show this and I am missing appointments.
I get notified on the locked screen but when I unlock to read my messages all the apps show something present except the Calendar. Is there a way to have this showing too? The dot in the corner of an app is really useful and works great for my emails etc. Have Apple missed a trick with supplying this on the Calendar app too?

Its not how it works. If anything you could also try using the Reminders app to help.
