Yes it is permissible. Just don't post any inappropriate pictures of yourself, and be careful of what you share on there.

Is it permissable? Permissable by who?

Since FaceBook did not exist when the Qur'an and all other Islamic scriptures and Hadith, who has the right to tell you what is permitted in the matter? As long as you do not post or intentionally view indecent pictures or text, it is "permissiable" to use Facebook. Though it is not wise to post too much personal stuff or identifying details.

You should know your responsibilities as a Muslim woman, what you should wear and how you should behave. A good Muslim (male or female) should already know their duties. And remember, if you follow the rules do not let *anyone* criticise you. Ultimate judgement is only the right of the almighty Himself. He knows what is in your mind and heart. He knows if you do wrong. Remember that when some 'community member' is using fake authority.

Facebook could be good if you post hadith's on there, and if you use it as a means of giving Dawaah to other people. In other words you could tell people about islam. If anyone reads the hadith (that you posted) then Inshallah you will get reward for it. If you write something like "reading one letter of the quran gives you 10 rewards" and then people act upon it, then this can even act as a sadaqah jariah for you, as people might start reading the quran just because you have written about how much reward you get from it.

Please do dua for my akirah.
