So me and him were just conversating on xbox live whil playing this game about girls for like an hour and this morning he messages me on twitter saying," that conversation was great last night you gotta hook me up with your number" it just seems kinda weird lol

Maybe he just felt a bond with you and wants to be friends. If you're not comfortable giving out your number, don't.

Don't read into it. Maybe he just thought you hit it off and would be great friends. And if he does somehow happen to be gay, then it doesn't mean he's attracted to you, and it doesn't mean you couldn't tell him you're not interested in him as anything other than a friend.
