Why are so many kids and teens on YA? - alicatsam - 03-24-2014 10:06 AM

I thought Facebook and twitter were the new thing. And texting their issues to their real life friends.
Sometimes, I can understand they want to be anonymous, if they feel weird about something, like physical stuff or what they think are odd thoughts or feelings. But mostly, it's stuff kids would complain to their real life friend's about. Complaints about chores, homework, bratty or bossy siblings, etc.
I don't get it.

More people can answer in YA, unlike in FB and Twitter where only friends and followers can answer.

Sometimes teens just want advice from people they don't know, so it is more impartial. For example, if they posted a question about the fact that their older brother hit them after they ate his chocolate and what to do about it on Y!A, they would probably get answers from both adults and teens who don't know them or their brother. They could then use the advice they were given and try and sort it themselves and nobody else would know about it. However, if they wrote about that incident on Facebook or Twitter, the brother may start getting a bad reputation for hitting his little sister. Or it may have an opposite effect and the brother may end up even angrier than he was before because the sister told everybody and the siblings may end up in a bigger fight than they already were.

That's all entirely theoretical of course, but there are probably many cases that fit that kind of situation. However it does irritate me when people simply come on here for a rant. That's not the purpose of a Q&A website.
