I'd like to make some new friends, and I've noticed that quite a lot of websites say that Facebook is a good website to make new friends on (by just sending people friend requests). But wouldn't it look creepy if someone sent you a friend request and you didn't know the person? How could I send someone a friend request without it looking creepy?

Tell them your plan. If you really want to make new friends that way tell them up front. They may be okay with it and want to talk to you and get to know you. Hiding that you don't really know them might creep them out

it's actually against the rules to send friend requests to people you dont know - it's not a website for making new friends, it's a website to stay in touch with friends you already know
if you ignore the rules and do it anyways, all it takes is for one person to click on "i dont know this person outside of facebook" and you will be prevented from sending friends requests for 7 days

U mmm , most people on Facebook add people they know in real life. Why would u want complete strangers? The only people I've seen sending friend requests to complete strangers are girls who look like hos with all their pics half naked and very sexual poses....i do think these are sex workers or something trying to gain more cliental.
Why would any normal person want strangers knowing everything about them. It's creepy.

i don't think facebook is the best site to search for friends. Honestly, most people will find a friend request from a stranger to be creepy. Your best chance of finding new friends to go on a website meant for people to meet new people. For instance, http://www.interpals.net/ is a great website for this. "InterPals is the premiere online community for meeting penpals, language partners, travel buddies or just plain old fashioned friends!"
