How can an employer screen you on facebook if you are not a friend or in their network? - Cookie - 03-24-2014 10:24 AM

I read articles and have been reading on yahoo answers that companies screens potential employees through their facebook profiles. But I understand that working on myspace, but not on facebook. Facebook has privacy settings where only your network and friends can view your profile. And in some cases, a lot of people do not even have networks. So how can companies look at your profile if they are not your friend or in your network? because if you just search a name, you cannot see their profile until you are added as a friend.

It depends on what privacy setting you have your profile on. I think that the default setting lets anyone in your networks view your profile. If you have your privacy setting set to 'public' then anyone with a facebook account, including an employer, can see your profile. Your best option is to set your privacy to 'friends only' that way only your friends can view your profile.

Yeah myspace you can check any profile without being a member. Facebook soon will allow it so that non-members can search for you profile through google.
