OK, first of all no one starts off with grade A caneras and equipment. You start off with an DSLR camera, get a used one on amazon. Make shorts and hope they get noticed. You can submit in film festivals.

A film student friend gave me this:
You just may be astonished at the quality of a semi-cheap digital camera.
But it sorta sounds like you want to get a camera that bolsters your professional image.

If you want a nice DSLR, WOMP has a good guide (if you can get around the humor):

If you want a light-weight camera that looks professional, a Panasonic HMC is nice:

Possibly more important than the camera is lighting.
But I can't really give recommendations there unless I know what/where you plan to shoot.
