They're two different things, but I suppose Skype is more popular, since people of all ages are using Skype. Skype is also more of a messenger network. It's not common that you add random people on Skype, in comparison to Facebook where you pretty much just add all people.
Facebook is a social network, a place to get new friends, therefore, I think you'll find younger people on Facebook.
It's all a matter of what age group you belong to, I think.
