How to convince someone not to commit suicide? - plato - 03-24-2014 10:52 AM

I need HELP quick. TO cut it short, I'll tell you that there is this girl which I know, who was been publicly ridiculed on Facebook, for her hair, by thousands of people on a viral Facebook page. She has been receiving death threats and this is not good. Despite the fact that she is only 14, she has got major depression and insomnia. She has been thinking about suicide for the past 2 years, and I fear this may be what triggers it. Not long ago she was abusing pills and ended up in hospital. Now she's broken up with her boyfriend, fallen out with her friends, and has just been depressed for the last two years, but now with thousands of people mocking her appearance, which she is particularly insecure about, she does not how to cope. Honestly, I do not know what to say, I am at lost.

Step 1)
Make a plan with them. Any plan. LIke, "Promise me you won't kill yourself before meeting me for coffee on Friday"

Step 2) Convince them that this is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and try and get them to agree to see a therapist.

Step 3) TELL SOMEONE ELSE RIGHT AWAY who can intervene.

Step 4) MOST IMPORTANTLY do not, DO NOT blame yourself if they kill themselves anyways.

Hi, I just want to support the answer by @John. I think he is well right.

I do think you are are correct to fear the worse. There are numerous cases of teen girls driven to suicide by trolls. The worst I know was the Canadian girl Amanda Todd. Those people were pure evil!

Have a look online for charities and other experts dealing in 'Cyberbullying'.

Good luck....

Tell them you love them and need them.

What John said. But be sure to pray to God for her every chance you get. Praying can do miracles.
