Why did Yahoo! discontinue avatars? - Adriana - 03-24-2014 11:03 AM

I was wondering because I'm new here and I wanted to make an avatar. But, I found out that since April 1st they discontinued them. Does anyone know why?
Thank You. No rude answers please.

They are always tooling around with this site. I bet we will get them back soon

I think it is because they now use the avatar from http://profile.yahoo.com/ and do not let users to have a different avatar here.

It's because they are cutting down on most services which don't bring them any money! But actually they only don't support the creation of their own cartoon avatars anymore, you can still create your own, here's how...

You can use a photo avatar or a cartoon avatar from another site, and if you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can also use those avatars.

Go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/privacy/ - make sure your profile isn't hidden, because if it is, your avatar won't show.

In case you want to use a Facebook or Twitter avatar, you need to link those accounts in the Profile options.
http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/linked-accounts/

You have several options in case you want a photo avatar:
a) go to your Yahoo! Answers settings at http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity > click edit my preferences near your current pic > click "Update photo or avatar",
b) go to your Yahoo! Profile at http://profile.yahoo.com/ , click on the current avatar.
Now upload a picture or choose one of the pics you've uploaded previously - the format can be bmp, jpg, png, or .gif.

Note: if you are on a mobile, you need to switch to desktop mode first in order for this to work.
