Advertising!!!! Facebook and Instagram also can use any of your posts and/or photos and sell them to advertisers without giving you a penny. People also pay to advertise their companies on Facebook walls in order to get as many views as possible.
Also, each time you like or favorite something, that can be used to produce revenue by selling the information to advertisers.
