Does the facebook app on iPhone use more data than browsing the website in Safari? - Julius Caesar - 03-24-2014 11:10 AM

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth downloading the app.
Same goes for Twitter actually.

Cheers.

Neither the apps use much data at all - it's basically down to what you're doing i.e. streaming videos, downloading images, and lots of page refreshes etc - the question you should be asking is which apps to get.

The Facebook app is really the only one you can get as far as that behemoth is concerned - but be ready for the slowest, buggiest and most annoying UI you'll experience.

Twitter is a whole different story. There are some excellent apps out there, and in my opinion one of the weakest is the official Twitter app. Try Tweetbot, it's the only one I will use - after having extensively tested all of them.

Really you get the apps for a speed, simplicity and offline caching. I do believe that the Application experience in general is better, especially for Twitter. But the Facebook app is many time slower than the Safari version, so unless you're desperate for it, I'd wait for Facebook's rumoured overhaul of that app and stick to your browser option with a home screen shortcut.
