There is no possible way you can go back,so in other words unfortunately if you update it you can't just turn around and go back.

Deleting your facebook is the only way to remove timeline.
I did because of the new "look" and so have many of my friends..

You can't turn back to old facebook profile. Facebook Timeline is the new look of facebook and it will be applied to all profiles soon enough. If you have Facebook Timeline you can't go back, if you don't, enjoy it while it lasts.
